Where plush keychains beat full-size promotional plush
Three scenarios where keychain wins over full-size:
- Trade-show welcome bags — recipients hand-carry 5-10 items home; a keychain weighs grams and survives the bag-stuffing, a 20cm plush gets left at the booth.
- Conference badge ribbons — plush keychain clipped to the badge is a walking brand impression for 3 days of the event.
- B2C lead-magnet "free shipping" trigger — adding a $0.80 plush keychain to fulfil a free-shipping-over-$50 threshold lifts AOV without eating margin.
- Repeat-purchase incentive — "buy 3, get a free [brand] plush keychain" cycles inventory faster than discount coupons in tested retail programs.
What you CAN'T do at keychain scale
Honest constraints worth knowing before you spec. At 5-8 cm, embroidery letters smaller than 4mm tall lose readability — wordmark logos with thin serifs need redesign for keychain scale. Multi-colour embroidery beyond 4 colours triples the unit cost because stitch density rises sharply on small areas. Highly detailed mascots simplify visibly — you lose facial nuance the buyer's design team probably cares about.
Workaround: keep the keychain design to a strong silhouette + 1-3 colour brand mark. Save the complex character work for the full-size plush in the same line.
